Tips, tricks and life hacks

For reasons that far surpass my abilities as an amateur travel agent, we came back the way we went: Keflavík>Portland>Seattle>Dallas.  I suppose it makes sense if you consider that you are cutting across the Arctic Circle, but I wonder how Alaska Airlines and Iceland Airlines explains that pathway to a flat-earther.

You know what- I will just do the traveling and the witty commentary, and I will leave explaining the spherical shape of the planet to someone else.

We spent yesterday afternoon, the overnight hours and this morning trying to get home.  Here are a few things that have really stood out over the past day or so:

  • Last night, we were looking at the horizon in Seattle watching the sun set.  Haven’t seen it do that in a while.
  • This morning when we arrived at DFW, it was still dark outside.  It hasn’t been dark outside for weeks!
  • Also, blackout curtains are magical.
  • We still love the silver line train here in Dallas.  So dang convenient.  Nobody had to peel themselves out of bed in the pre-dawn hours and drive all the way out to the spaghetti bowl of roads that lead to the airport.  Jeff did get up pretty early and drive us to our house from a very near by station.
  • I finished reading my book!  That was the third one I finished on this adventure.  I love that I had some good reading time along the path.  I don’t get enough of that.
  • If you are planning a trip to Iceland, I want to warn you, not a single square of their toilet tissue is soft.  There. You’ve been warned.  Do with that info as you wish.
  • Don’t purchase water while you are in Iceland.  Just fill up everything from the bathroom sink.  It’s fantastic water.
  • Never connect through the Seattle airport.  We did both ways, and the first time, we had to run for a plane.  The second time, we didn’t, but our inbound flight was very delayed and half of our fellow passengers broke out into a jog at the terminal.  I think we can just avoid switching planes in Seattle from here on out.

That’s a wrap on our 16-day summer extravaganza.  Hope we didn’t miss much in America while we were gone.  We’re under a month away from our tenth anniversary, and after that, we head back to work.  I’ll hop back on here the next time I shove a bunch of clothes into a piece of luggage.  Until then, Skál!

Here’s the new addition to our refrigerator magnet collection…
