When we left there, we went to Uluru. Turns out, that's an aboriginal name, not a tribute to a Star Trek character. Thank goodness. Now, I won't feel obligated to locate Sulu or Kirk.
Our bus driver and tour guide was very interesting. He had all sorts of stories from different aboriginal tribes explaining the various features of the rock and the shapes, colors and water features all around. Most of the stories were told, he said, to teach a moral.
It was quite a drive out to the rock, and the landscape was very red all along the way. I figured if I ever wanted to film a sci-fi movie, this would be the part of the world I would choose for primary scenes.
Nevertheless, it was beautiful and strange all at the same time.
At sunset, our tour bus went around so we could see the color change on the rock itself. They also gave us some champagne. It's been a very bubbly day like that. Here we are drinking a toast to Chad and Becky. Happy anniversary to my soon-to-be-in laws.
We've just returned to the hotel now, and we're trying to figure out some dinner. Wish us luck.
Wow! It sounds like Ballooning was everything you had hoped it would be. What a great photo of you two with champagne and the sunset on Ayers Rock!!! Clever Trekkie blog, Heather
